Poll: Employers Hold Salary Negotiation Power
HR professionals believe that employers currently have the upper hand over job candidates when it comes to negotiating salary, according to a recent poll on HR.BLR.com and Compensation.BLR.com.

When asked "Who has the upper hand when it comes to salary negotiations?," 71 percent responded "Employers" while just 15 percent responded "Job candidates." Meanwhile, 14 percent responded that neither employers nor job candidates had the upper hand.

According to a recent report by Jobfox, the current state of the U.S. economy is "casting a shadow on the psyches of job candidates," as they have become less aggressive when it comes to bargaining for starting salaries when looking for a new job. Jobfox noted that job seekers must contend with the fact that employers are "feeling the pain" of the economy. Furthermore, employers are increasingly making use of cost-control strategies, including a "greater reliance on bonus programs and other pay-for-performance compensation models."

The HR.BLR.com/Compensation.BLR.com poll included 350 respondents.
