According to the survey, Job Outlook 2011 Fall Preview, the average 2011 graduate’s starting salary will be $50,034. This is a 3.5 percent increase over 2010 graduates.

In addition, roughly 45 percent of respondents are planning to offer signing bonuses to selected 2011 graduates. The average signing bonus is expected to be $4,347. According the results, graduates who hold a degree in computer science, engineering, finance, or accounting will be the most likely to receive a signing bonus.

Hiring is also expected to rise. The latest data suggests that 53 percent of respondents' organizations plan to increase their college hiring in 2011.

“This suggests that on-campus recruiting activity for both internships and full-time hiring should be better than what we have seen in the past two years,” says Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive director.

The survey also reported on job growth. Jobs at the top of the list include:

  • Public and private accounting
  • Consulting
  • Financial/treasury analysis
  • Sales
  • Investment banking
  • Management trainee positions

Employers also ranked the top candidate skills/qualities they are looking for. The top five were:

  1. Verbal communication
  2. Strong work ethic
  3. Teamwork skills
  4. Analytical skills
  5. Initiative
