Survey: No Salary Thaw Out in Early 2010 for Most Employers
Most employers that froze salaries in response to the economic recession aren’t planning on “unfreezing” them anytime soon, according to a survey by Compensation.BLR.com and HR.BLR.com.

When asked “Will your organization unfreeze salaries in the next 6 months?,” 57 percent responded “No” while 43 percent responded “Yes.”

In October 2009, a Watson Wyatt survey found that some employers are looking to the future with optimism. More than half (54 percent) of companies who said they had frozen salaries in recent months planned to unfreeze them within the next 6 months. This was up from roughly 33% in an August survey and just 17% in June of 2009.

“The general economic picture right now is definitely brighter than it was just a few months ago,” said Laura Sejen, global director of strategic rewards consulting at Watson Wyatt. “However, the recovery is uneven and most employers aren't fully convinced that the improvements they've seen are here to stay.”
