Only about a third of employers that offer flexible work arrangements aim to determine whether or not such arrangements are effective, according to a recent Compensation.BLR.com poll.
When asked "Does your company measure the effectiveness of flexible work arrangements?," 45 percent responded "No" while just 16 percent responded "Yes." The remaining 39 percent of respondents reported that they don't offer flexible arrangements.
In a recent survey by Hewitt Associates, a majority of companies that offer flexible work arrangements said that they were optimistic about the effectiveness of the programs, but very few companies had formal and consistent policies and procedures in place to manage these programs.
"Flexible work arrangements have become increasingly popular programs among employers because they are both highly valued by employees and relatively inexpensive for employers to implement," says Carol Sladek, principal in Hewitt's Work-Life practice. "But these programs can also be terribly complex to design, manage and measure. Companies with consistent and formal policies, strong education and communication, and ongoing measurement strategies in place will truly succeed in maximizing the return on their investment--both in terms of costs and employee engagement."
The Compensation.BLR.com poll included 153 respondents.
