  • Reporting requirements can differ between states
  • Some states may require that documentation is turned in to the state
  • The law firm Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, PC also maintains a database containing the reporting requirements information regarding independent contractors on a state by state basis. Hence, this can also provide specific information regarding reporting requirements for a specific state

Anastas also discusses the process of maintaining information about independent contractors within an organization’s record-keeping systems, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) or the organization’s computer systems. Information about the independent contractors that an organization hires should not be put into databases where information also exists about regular employees. The organization should keep their independent contractor information distinct from the information regarding the organization’s employees
