Maine Governor Signs Minimum Wage Bill
Maine Governor John E. Baldacci on April 17 signed a bill that will increase the minimum wage a total of 50 cents over the next 18 months.

The legislation (LD 1697) raises the minimum wage from the current $7.00 an hour to $7.25 on October 1, 2008. On October 1, 2009, the minimum wage will increase another 25 cents to $7.50 an hour.

In signing the bill, Baldacci noted that the legislation makes sure that wages in Maine keep pace with the rest of New England. "This is an important step, and it's another in a series of efforts that we have joined together on to ensure all Maine people have access to good paying jobs and a brighter future," he said.
