In Nevada, the state minimum wage rate varies for employers depending on whether the employer offers its employees health benefits.

For employees who are offered qualifying health benefits, the state minimum wage will be $6.55 per hour effective July 1, 2009. Employers that offer health benefits have already been paying at least that rate because the federal minimum wage is currently $6.55.

However, employers that offer health benefits will be affected when the federal minimum wage increases later in July. When the federal minimum wage increases on July 24, 2009, Nevada employers that provide health insurance must pay their employees at least $7.25 per hour, the new federal rate.

Beginning July 1, employers in Nevada that don't offer qualified health benefits must pay employees at least $7.55 per hour. The higher rate of $7.55 per hour paid by employers that don't offer health insurance is unaffected by the federal rate increase.
