Montana employers in the voluntary market pay, on average, the highest workers’ compensation premium rates in the nation at $3.33 per $100 of payroll, according to recent study. North Dakota ranked the lowest in the nation at $1.02 per $100 of payroll.

Get Your Report Now!The 2010 median value is $2.04, which is less than the 2008 median ($2.26). A majority of states fall into the $1.50 to $1.99 range (16 states) or the $2.00 to $2.49 range (20 states.)
Three states have an index rate in the $3.00 to $3.49 range:
Five states are in the $2.50 to $2.99 range and seven have indices under $1.50.
