Company to Pay $20,000 for Violating Equal Pay Act
Glacier Northwest Inc., a supplier of ready mixed concrete based in the state of Washington, has agreed to pay $20,000 in back wages to two women, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced.

The EEOC brought a lawsuit against Galcier Northwest on behalf of the two women, claiming that the company violated the Equal Pay Act when it paid its female cement terminal operators at wage rates which were less than the rates paid to its male employees who performed substanitally equal work. According to the EEOC, the agency first attempted to reach a voluntary settlement with Glacier before it filed suit.

Under a consent decree filed with the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Washington at Seattle, Glacier will pay the women $20,000. In addition, it has agreed to provide antidiscrimination training for its managers, supervisors and employees; establish policies and procedures to address discrimination issues; provide information to the EEOC concerning any future discrimination complaints; and allow EEOC to monitor the worksite for 2 years.
