The Paycheck Fairness Act would also reinstate the Clinton administration's Equal Pay Matters Initiative; mandate the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) continued collection of data about women workers (a practice the Bush administration apparently plans to discontinue), and strengthen enforcement of equal pay laws among federal contractors.

The Act would create a training program to help women strengthen their negotiation skills, prohibit employers from retaliating against employees who share salary information, and allow women to sue for punitive damages when their rights under the Equal Pay Act are violated.<.p>
