More than a quarter of working married women are now making more money than their working husbands, according to a report by the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Get Your Report Now!In families in which both the husband and wife have earnings, 25.5 percent of wives earned more than their husbands in 2005, up from 17.8 percent in 1987, according to the report.
The percentage of working married women earning more than their working husbands was generally flat during the mid to late 1990s but has been rising steadily since 2000.
Among families in which the husband and wife had earnings, 22.7 percent of wives earned more than their husbands from 1996 through 1998.
Since 2000, the percentage of wives earning more than their husbands rose more than 2 percentage points.
