HR Pros Split on Mandatory Paid Sick Leave
HR professionals are split nearly dead even when it comes to whether employers should offer paid sick leave, according to a recent poll on HR.BLR.com and Compensation.BLR.com.

When asked "Should the federal government require employers to offer paid sick leave?," 53 percent responded "No" while 47 percent responded "Yes."

Earlier this month, organizers of a paid sick leave initiative in Ohio dropped their effort to have it appear on the ballot in November. Ohioans for Healthy Families, the coalition of labor groups and other organizations that pushed for the ballot initiative, said they would fight for paid sick leave on a national level instead.

The District of Columbia and San Francisco require employers to offer paid sick leave. In November 2006, voters in San Francisco approved Proposition F, making the city the first to require employers to offer paid sick leave.

The HR.BLR.com/Compensation.BLR.com poll included 608 respondents.
