HR Pros Think Universal Health Care Is a Long Way Off
Despite recent talk in media circuits--and on the presidential campaign trail--about federal government-sponsored health care, it will be a quite a while before it ever becomes a reality. At least that's the thinking of human resource professionals, according to a recent Compensation.BLR.com poll.

When asked "Will universal health care become a reality?," 39 percent of respondents answered "Not for at least another 10 years," while 36 percent responded "Never." Meanwhile, 18 percent answered that universal health care would become a reality "In the next 5 years, if Hilary Clinton is president" while just seven percent responded "In the next 5 years, regardless of who is president."

In September, Hillary Clinton announced her "American Health Choices Plan" intended to provide "quality affordable health care for every American." Also in September, we reported on a keynote speaker at the most recent Employee Benefits Management Forum & Expo who argued that the federal government should bear more of the burden of health care costs. The speaker, Jacob Hacker, a Professor of Political Science at Yale University and author, promoted his "Health Care for American Plan" for universal coverage. For details, read the article.

The Compensation.BLR.com poll included 259 respondents.
