Survey: 2 in 3 Employees Living Paycheck to Paycheck
Over two-thirds of American workers are living paycheck to paycheck, according to a new American Payroll Association (APA) survey.

The 2007 online survey found that 31,640 of more than 47,000 respondents--67 percent--said that they would have difficulty meeting their financial obligations if their paycheck was delayed. This reflects a two percent increase from the same "Getting Paid In America" survey conducted in 2006, in which 65 percent of employees reported that they lived paycheck to paycheck.

The survey was held in conjunction with APA's annual public awareness campaign, National Payroll Week, held earlier this month.

Dan Maddux, executive director of the APA, noted that the survey results "clearly show that Americans are finding it hard to save" and suggests that American employees "talk to their payroll departments and sign up for free programs like flexible spending accounts, which will help them maximize their take home pay and increase savings."
