Get Your Report Now!The median tenure of workers--the midpoint of wage and salary workers' length of employment in their current job--was 5.1 years in 2008, compared to 5.0 years in 1983. The trend for male workers is down, from 5.9 years in 1983 to 5.2 years in 2008, but has increased for female workers. Women stayed an average of 4.2 years in the same job in 1983, compared to 4.9 years in 2008. Private sector works stayed level, at 3.9 years. Public sector employees experienced an increase, from 6.0 years in 1983 to 7.0 years in 2008.
