t HR professionals report that their company is willing to negotiate salary offers.

When asked "Is your company willing to negotiate over salary offers?," 68 percent responded "In general, yes" and 32 percent responded "In general, no" in a recent Compensation.BLR.com poll.

Other recent research shows that a willingness to negotiate salary offers may benefit employers seeking to secure top talent, as employees are getting bolder about negotiating for higher compensation.

According to a new survey by Robert Half International and CareerBuilder.com, workers are more likely to negotiate for a better compensation package if offered a new position this year than they were last year. In 2006, 29 percent of workers said they would likely negotiate for higher compensation if accepting a new job offer. In this year's poll, that figure doubled--58 percent would negotiate higher compensation today.

The Compensation.BLR.com poll included 319 respondents.
