In an effort to reduce healthcare costs and improve productivity, employers are offering cash bonuses, vacations, and paid days off from work to employees who lose weight.
Freedom One Financial Corp. has set up an annual challenge for employees to lose weight. The company awards vacations to employees who lose 25 pounds, drop 15 percent of their body weight, or reduce their body fat by 15 percent, the newspaper reports.
The company tells the newspaper that about half of its 75 employees participate in the challenge.
"It's actually selfish," says Mark Wayne, president and chief executive of Freedom One Financial Corp. "When somebody feels good, they're healthy, they work harder and they're more focused."
